If you treat head lice early, you stand a much better chance of getting rid of them, and a much lower chance of spreading them to other people, including your family. Checking for head lice every week as a precaution, and every day if you know of an outbreak, is the best way to stay on top of the situation.

- Wash hair as normal, using a wash-out conditioner if the hair is prone to tangling
- Towel dry the hair and comb through with an ordinary
wide-toothed comb - If the hair is difficult to comb, use a little olive oil on the hair
- Don't use lots of conditioner, as this can foam up and make the head lice difficult to see
- Divide the hair into sections and use the comb supplied to comb the hair from root to tip
- After each combing, wipe the debris from the comb with a tissue
- Use the magnifying lens supplied to take a closer look to see whether or not you have head lice
- If you find a live, moving head louse, use a clinically-proven head lice treatment, such as Lyclear SprayAway or Lyclear Creme Rinse
- Repeat head lice detection every week to make sure that your family aren't infested, or to make sure you can treat them early if they are

Lyclear CombAway is a clinically-proven, chemical-free wet combing kit in the Lyclear range of expert solutions. It has been designed to help you with routine weekly checks for head lice. The eggs (called nits) are laid close to the scalp and adhere strongly to the hair with a glue-like substance secreted by the female louse as she lays her eggs. The unique formula in Lyclear CombAway helps to dissolve this substance, which then releases the nits from the hair. This makes it easier to comb them out for detection. Sometimes, head lice can go undetected with combing alone. Remember that, in addition to your regular weekly checks, you should also conduct daily checks if you hear of a head lice outbreak to which your family may have been exposed.
- Wash hair as normal, without conditioner

Repellents
Even once head lice have been successfully treated, there is no guarantee that you or your family won't be re-infested at some point. If you aren't taking precautions, all it takes is head-to-head contact with someone who has head lice, and you or your family could catch head lice again. For this reason, it is important to use a
clinically-proven repellent. Some products contain essential oils and claim to repel head lice, but there is no evidence to support this

- Ensure that no live head lice are present in the hair

- Use 5–25 sprays, depending on the length of the hair
- Let the hair dry naturally
- Repeat every morning to help prevent head lice
- Use on the rest of the family if one member has head lice
- To prevent another outbreak, use on the infested member of the family as soon as they are free from head lice
